forensic science
Forensic Serology is the study of bodily fluids as they relate to criminal cases
and includes a
DNA analysis.
A forensic serologist would be interested in:

  • Evaluating the DNA found in bodily fluids such as blood, urine, saliva, CSF,
    and interstitial fluid.
  • Reporting and testifying regarding the results of her analysis in a court of law
  • Examining crime scene evidence for the presence of body fluids e.g. blood,
semen, hair, tissue, saliva, feces, and urine
  • Evaluating and identifying the species of body fluids - is it human or a cat,
    squirrel, insect or alien?!
  • Performing  PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and an analysis of STR (short
tandem repeat sequences) of both genomic  DNA, or mitochondrial DNA
  • Statistically evaluating the collected evidence
  • Performing an unbiased analysis with appropriate scientific methods

University.  He lectures on what blood is and how it is used in crime scene analysis.
